A friend of mine told me how, when he was a young lad, he was drawing pictures of birds with his dad, and asked how come dad’s drawings were so much better than his own.
His dad answered his question with a question?
How many birds have you drawn?
Well, you’ve drawn three. I’ve drawn over 400 in my life. And I promise you, that by the time you’ve drawn 400, yours will be much better than mine.
I like that. Great psychology; wrapping perseverance up with confidence.
It’s 10 000 hours, but seems more poetic when it’s about drawing birds.
Here’s to reclaiming time in this busy world to give to 400 attempts at something.
